A special site for exploring the outliner built into Radio UserLand.
OPML in Manila Messages
Today we released some changes for both Manila and Radio UserLand that support editing of Manila messages and stories as opml documents. This means that data stored in outline nodes will be saved with the message, and downloaded to Radio UserLand when editing or viewing the message.
This feature is available now on UserLand servers.
How to get the feature
To get the new feature, update Radio.root using the Update Radio.root command in the File menu.
How to use the feature
You don't have to do anything special to start editing opml in your Manila sites. Every time you save a message or story you've been working on in Radio UserLand, the message is saved as an opml document.
The message will render the same way normal outline-based messages render -- rules will be applied, and node data will be ignored. However, when you edit or read the message in Radio UserLand, the node data is preserved.
For instance, if you add a link to a node in your outline, others will see the link when reading the message using Radio UserLand.
About compatibility
If the server does not support the opml editing feature, then your outlines will be saved as before. Node data will be ignored, and your message will be saved as a plain outline.
It's also important to note that if someone edits a message using an older version of Radio UserLand which isn't aware of the opml feature, then the node data will not be preserved when the message is saved. If you intend to collaborate on editing opml in Manila sites, make sure everyone has updated Radio.root before they edit any messages.
Notes for server managers
The server-side of this feature requires Frontier 7.0b21 or later. You can download the latest beta of Frontier from the support site. As of this writing, the latest beta is 7.0b26.
To get the changes required to support this feature, update Manila.root on your server.
